奥克兰, CALIFORNIA – Centro Legal de la Raza’s 董事会 of Directors has chosen Monique Juanita Berlanga as Executive Director, 12月1日有效, 2021.
Berlanga joined Centro Legal six years ago and has led Centro Legal’s 租户的权利 Practice as the Directing Attorney for the past three years. 东湾人, she has personal and professional insight to the political, 经济, 以及东湾的社会气候. Berlanga holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, 伯克利法学院, and has over 10 years of public interest litigation experience. For Berlanga, Centro Legal has always been “home.” Berlanga has maintained connection to Centro Legal’s housing work since 2005, when she first began volunteering at Centro Legal’s legal clinics as a first-year law student.
Berlanga was selected from over 100 applicants in the nationwide search for Centro Legal de la Raza’s Executive Director.
Berlanga brings a multifaceted perspective, having represented low-income tenants in the East Bay for over ten years. 在加入先涛公司之前, she worked as a housing staff attorney with Bay Area Legal Aid where her practice focused on eviction defense in the context of subsidized housing and representation of tenants in fair housing matters. 在此之前, Berlanga spent five years as the managing attorney of the Eviction Defense Center in Oakland, 她就一个案子提起诉讼的地方,500 cases on behalf of low-income tenants facing eviction from their homes in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.
最近, Berlanga assumed the Interim Co-Executive Director role, leading over 100 staff at Centro Legal. Monique holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from California State University, Hayward. Berlanga was the first person in her family to attend college. Monique is a member of the East Bay La Raza Lawyer’s Association and the Alameda County Bar Association. She was recently elected to serve as a 董事会 Member of East Bay Housing Organizations (EBHO). Berlanga lives in San Leandro with her partner and their three sons.
