IMMIGRANTS’ RIGHTS GROUP

Deisy Amezcua Tarelo

Sr. Paralegal

As a Pro Bono Legal Assistant, Deisy works with both pro bono placed cases with legal firms outside Centro Legal and with non-detained immigrants at Centro Legal on a variety of immigration relief cases ranging from asylum to citizenship.

As an immigrant herself, she became passionate about immigrants’ rights and social justice issues in the communities around her. Prior to joining Centro Legal, she was involved in a variety of public service and legal service organizations around the Bay Area during her time in college. Deisy was also previously a DreamSF Fellow at OneJustice where she acquired her experience working with pro bono attorneys and coordinating mobile legal clinics in rural areas of California.

Deisy holds a simultaneous Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Chicano Studies. She hopes to continue her education by either pursuing a law degree or exploring social work in relation to working with immigrants.

As a true Gemini, she has many interests including going on as many adventures as possible, dancing, yoga, bullet journaling and reading for fun. She loves arts and crafts and going into nature (you can find her at the beach or in the sun).
